Spence whiled away many hours painting, drawing and making as a child. In her late teens, she packed it all away, believing that a horrible thing that happened in her life proved she couldn't trust herself anymore.

She lamented this for her adult life.

In 2024, whilst things were not going to plan on her sabbatical after injuring her foot and not able to walk, she finally picked up a pen again and started to doodle. She wandered into an art shop and bought a travellers watercolour set, a little sketchbook and pencil, and they became her companions.

Upon returning home, she stumbled across Tin's evening watercolour and acrylics courses, and thanks to these, has started to appreciate that she can in fact trust herself to make something on a page that she didn't believe was possible.
