A relative newcomer to visual arts, Neil brings a background in engineering and a perspective shaped by experience as an educator, writer and performing musician.
Working mostly in acrylics, his work tries to find new ways of looking at familiar subjects, whether that is by combining representational painting with deconstructed styles such as cubism, painting pop culture subjects in the styles of old masters, or juxtaposing nature and man-made artefacts.
In the belief that serious doesn't have to mean solemn, a sense of humour pervades the work, acknowledging and accepting the self-referential nature of art.
His work has been selected for exhibition from nationwide submissions and shown both locally and internationally.
